Sampson was born in Britain and raised in New Zealand. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil and structural engineering from Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand; and his master's in construction engineering and management from Stanford University.
His analytical computer skills were first recognized in ASCE and ACI publications concerning path-breaking studies in reinforced concrete ductility modeling and continue to advance with today's emerging technologies such as AJAX and ASP.Net.
